 Overview

In today's fiercely competitive business environment, there has to be much greater interaction between the customers and manufacturers. This means that, in order to produce goods tailored to customer requirements and provide faster deliveries, the enterprise must be closely linked to both suppliers and customers. In order to achieve this improved delivery performance, decreased lead times within the enterprise and improved efficiency and effectiveness, manufacturers need to have efficient planning and control systems that enable very good synchronization and planning in all the processes of the organization. Today, however, the challenge is intense and requires a strong

integration across the value chain. Enterprise Resource Planning is such a strategic tool, which equips the enterprise with the necessary capabilities to integrate and synchronize the isolated functions into streamlined business processes in order to gain a competitive edge in the turbulent business environment.

Corporate Companies have spent ample of money and resources towards implementation of ERP packages. The success ratio of the implementation to the failures has always been a problem and roadblock to the corporate as well as IT companies.

The biggest reason of these failures is largely contributed to lack of understanding of the processes by both the ends i.e. Business processes by the IT Companies and Technical limitations by the Corporate Companies.

Henceforth, it is essential that there be a medium by which this distance is minimized and the processes are interpreted technically in documents which help the IT companies to simplify their efforts of understanding the complex array of processes and develop the best IT systems to suit to their clients.

   WHY Investè?

Investè carries expertise in field of understanding the peculiar and specific business process requirements and the kind of reporting mechanism top managements look at to enhance their businesses without many efforts and devote time on mapping the processes. These processes could be easily understood and transformed to the IT companies because of the simple reason of Investè being involved deeply in the systems and business processes and has the understanding of benefits and limitations of IT as well as business processes.

   How it Works

         Prerequisite

First and foremost is the top management's commitment. To get the maximum benefit from a technology, there has to be a change in attitude. IT cannot be looked at as expenditure. It has to be considered as a resource. Also, the entire organization-right from the sales people to the guy on the shop floor-has to be educated

Investè shall map the processes involved in the organization using its process tools. This would be possible by conducting workshops, creating work groups and task forces to understand different activites, their technical aspect, reporting hierarchy, etc. Investè shall reach to the planning module by using following processes;

         BPR (Business Process Reengineering)
  It must be remembered that ERP is an opportunity for business re-engineering. One gets the opportunity to restructure and reorganize people and departments to meet new challenges and global competition. Information is a vital factor along with quality, cost, and delivery to establish competitive advantage. As such, it calls for attitudinal changes which will help in a smooth transition, learning best practices, and adopting them into the business. No doubt, these changes will reap good profits in a short time.

         User Profiling & Review
  It must always be remembered that ERP packages are tools to support the business. Close linkage to business must be reviewed and monitored to ensure that the required information is made available to the right people at the right cost and in the right format so as to gain competitive edge in the era of global competition. It is observed that, when a business crosses the boundaries of the nation and becomes multinational, it has no other option but to use ERP so as to standardize operations worldwide.

Importance of 'password' and 'controlled access' must be emphasized. Further, well-defined procedures must be adopted to monitor access to the information. Depending on the levels of the people, various privileges should be allocated (read, write, or both). The authorization to approve a transaction is also a requirement for certain critical functions. The periodic dumps of data and consistency of databases and their fine tuning must be ensured as in the case of legacy systems.

   Information Engineering

  Investè shall prepare an information engineering document for the IT Company selected and appointed by the client for developing the software. The information engineering document will consist of;

Software Infrastructure modules

Defining user attributes & Rights

Defining Report Bodies
Defining Report application and hierarchy

Investè shall make presentation at different levels to ensure that the technical document is reflecting the exact requirements. Investè shall seek agreement of the modules planned from various department heads including the top management. Investè shall revisit the modules in case of any changes/modifications are suggested.

The document shall be discussed with the IT Company and a schedule of activities including, phases of development and implementation shall be worked out and simultaneously informed to the client

         Progress, Implementation & Training
  Investè shall liaison with the IT Company and report the progress to the clients.

Once the software is developed Investè shall prepare the training and implementation program for the client and conduct training and implementation workshop.

Investè shall track the implementation and report the success to the IT Company as well as the Management.
